Ingredients
  

For the Marinade
  • 1 cup Hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup Soy sauce Coconut aminos for gluten-free
  • 1/4 cup Honey Maple syrup works too
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce Vegan oyster sauce is a substitute
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar Apple cider vinegar can be used
  • 4 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame oil Light cooking oil can be used
For the Chicken
  • 1.5 pounds Boneless, skinless chicken thighs Chicken breasts are an option

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, Chinese five-spice powder, and sesame oil. Whisk until well-blended.
  3. Place chicken thighs into a large resealable bag and pour half of the marinade over them. Seal and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  4. Reserve the remaining marinade in an airtight container for later use.
  5. About 30 minutes before cooking, remove chicken from the fridge to allow it to reach room temperature.
  6. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and arrange the chicken thighs on it, spaced apart.
  7. Bake the chicken for 25-30 minutes until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  8. Pour the reserved marinade into a saucepan and heat until boiling, then simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
  9. Broil the chicken for 2-3 minutes after brushing with the thickened marinade.
  10. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
