  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water ensure warm, not hot
  • ½ cup milk plant-based milk for a dairy-free option
  • 2 tablespoons oil canola or sunflower oil
Custard Filling
  • 1 cup custard powder homemade or store-bought
  • egg-based custard optional for traditional taste

Method
 

Dough Preparation

Rising
  1. Cover the dough and place it in a warm area to rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
Custard Preparation
  1. Prepare your chosen custard filling while the dough is rising.
Shaping Buns
  1. Once risen, punch down the dough, knead for 3 minutes, and divide into 12 pieces.
  2. Roll each piece into a circle, place custard in the center, fold, and seal edges tightly.
Cooking
  1. Cook the buns in a non-stick skillet over low heat for about 10 minutes until golden, then flip and cook for another 5 minutes.
Cooling and Serving
