Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Gradually mix in 2 large eggs, one at a time, then stir in 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of almond extract.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Gradually add this to your wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to ¼ inch thick and use a Hocus Pocus cookie cutter to cut out shapes.
  4. Place the cut shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and bake the chilled cookies for 12-16 minutes.
  6. Allow the cookies to cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack.
  7. Prepare your edible paint by mixing the desired food coloring with egg yolks.
  8. Using food-safe brushes, paint whimsical designs inspired by the Hocus Pocus characters onto your cooled cookies.
